During our fourth session, we will discuss dreams and their reflection and interpretation in poetry. The work of our unconscious mind has fascinated scientists and artists alike. What do our dreams mean? Can we read anything into their often vivid yet nonsensical images? This session we will focus on the naturalistic yet wholly dreamlike Behind Stowe by Elizabeth Bishop. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1911, Bishop spent almost all of her life in New England and Atlantic Canada, and her poetry is partially defined by this. She was a queer poet and a woman who refused to be defined by either. She wanted to be known not as a lesbian poet or a female poet, but to be judged on the quality of her work. Experience Poetry in the Garden will be every Thursday at 6:30 PM. Let the calm of our garden inspire your love for poetry and community. 🔸Registration link: https://amhousekyiv.com/3XtCcZo 🔸The deadline to register is September 11th at 12 PM.
